Understanding the Principles behind the practices, makes the practices more effective. Being rooted on principles helps us in many ways …

"Not to stray away too much from the actual Goal."

"For measuring the effectiveness of the practices followed."

"To do self retrospective to be able to course correct."

One important Leadership Principle I follow is focusing on 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆, 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 & 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕 in this same order of importance.

All 3 are important and have to be taken care of by an Engineering Manager (EM). But in which order we take care of these 3 makes all the difference between being a Good EM and a Great EM.

  • 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒕 pays us. Product or Service or whatever is sold is the end goal. If a customer is not happy with the product or service, then there is no game.

  • 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒔𝒔 maintains levels of sanity for all people involved. As the ever-famous Edwards Deming quoted:

"Eighty-five percent of the reasons for failure are deficiencies in the systems and process rather than the employee."

  • 𝑷𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆 are the cornerstones of any solid team/organization/company/family/nation. Empowered people produce exciting results.

If 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 are taken care well and provided with the right 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬, then they build awesome 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬.

As an EM, me being rooted on this principle helps me not to stray away too much, evaluate my practices, and course correct. So that I keep striving to become a Great EM and not just be satisfied for being a Good one.
