Circle Description
What are managers looking for when they hire and promote engineers? What separates a junior engineer from a senior engineer, a candidate that's passed by from one with multiple job offers? Whether you’re just starting your career or have been at it for some time, knowing now to make impact will set you up for success. In this circle we’ll discuss *impact*. What does impact mean? What does it mean to have more of it? Let's talk about how impact is measured by hiring managers, how you can seek it out at your current job, and how you can set up your career for success in the next few years. About me -- I'm Chris Rude and my pronouns are he/him/his. I've managed engineers and engineering at a lot of places, most recently Facebook, Stripe, Dropbox and VMware. Before that I was a software engineer, at Microsoft and other places. I've made hundreds of hiring and promotion decisions for engineers and engineering managers, and have a good sense for what recruiters, hiring managers, promotion committees and (probably) your boss is looking for when considering you for the next level. Let's talk not just about how you can impress those people in your life, but how you can impress *yourself*, by bringing your full ideas and energy to the work you do in the world.
This circle is full.
