Giving, asking for and receiving engineering feedback

First Session:

Hosted by

Cathy Polinsky

CTO at Stitch Fix

Circle Description

I'm the CTO at Stitch Fix and have 20 years experience in software and engineering leadership positions at companies ranging from Amazon, Salesforce, Yahoo!, Oracle and startups. One of the biggest pitfalls that I've seen engineers and engineering leaders make is to not ask for feedback or help and instead try to power through a challenges because they feel like they need to prove they can do it on their own. The best engineers and leaders that I've worked with are ones who embrace feedback and are consistently giving and receiving feedback in their work. This doesn't always come naturally but it a muscle that can be built with practice. In this group, we'll talk about different types of feedback (from code reviews and 1:1 feedback to retrospectives and team or org feedback) and discuss techniques for giving and receiving feedback. We'll also talk about how to avoid toxic feedback cultures. Look forward to the conversations!
