Director of Engineering - Threat Management and Growth

GitLab Inc.

Sep 2019 - current

Wayne leads two departments at GitLab: The first is the threat management department, which builds security features used by customers into the GitLab product, including container security and vulnerability management. These features allow customers to "shift security to the left" when building and maintaining their applications while enabling them to detect, prevent, prioritize, and resolve security issues with the lowest effort and highest effectiveness. The second department is the growth department, which focuses on a data collection framework that allows GitLab to make informed product decisions, improve customer experience, promote conversion, adopt key stages, and increase the user base. The team validates ideas with data across teams focused on activation, adoption, conversion, and expansion. Investigates and leads initiatives to measure and improve company-wide engineering productivity. Represents the company and speaks at customer conferences (GitLab Commit) and industry activities (including the CNCF Security Special Interest Group and the PlatoHQ mentoring program). Founded and co-leads the generational differences team member resource group.
