Ian Nowland

I just recently left my role as a SVP Engineering at Datadog, where I managed about 700 people in the Core Engineering organization. I am currently writing a book on Platform Engineering, while also consulting and angel investing while looking for my next role. Before Datadog, I spent a couple of years as a SVP of Engineering at Two Sigma, running their compute Platform Engineering teams. Prior to that, I was a Senior Manager at AWS EC2 for 8 years, where I managed the Nitro team and all other teams working on the EC2 VPC data plane. I am passionate about balancing humanistic and mechanical approaches to management to build software development orgs who deliver great customer value but also love their jobs. In my free time I enjoy lifting weights, and traveling the world.
