Deepak Shankar

I am Deepak Shankar, Director of Engineering at WeWork. In my current role, I lead an organization of 50+ members spread across North America, Ukraine, and India. My main focus is on defining long-term product and technical roadmap, providing strategic vision, and collaborating with different departments such as Data, Design, Product, and SRE. My expertise lies in managing the Identity and Access Management group at WeWork, ensuring secure access for customers, partners, and internal teams. This includes overseeing the authentication and authorization systems, managing user and membership data, and handling physical access for members. I have a strong background in RBAC and ABAC models and have been able to successfully lead my teams in delivering top-notch solutions. In my past roles, I have gained experience in various industries, including finance, retail, and healthcare. With over 10 years of experience in software engineering, I have honed my skills in leadership, project management, and mentorship. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and reading, and I am passionate about giving back to the community through mentorship programs. I am also a proud Plato mentor, helping aspiring engineers develop their skills and achieve their career goals.
