A Day in the Life of a Product Lead in FinTech – A Series

1.0 Intro
As the Head of Research and Development at Youtap, I have the privilege of being able to use my knowledge and experience to make a difference in the FinTech industry. Over the past decade, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects, big and small, with successful outcomes. I have seen the world of FinTech evolve and technology improve, and I am always inspired to be at the forefront of the latest advancements.
My most recent challenge has been to improve the time to delivery for a standard white label banking app. Deployment has transitioned from on-premise to the cloud, and I have had to work with teams in Zimbabwe, the Philippines, and Indonesia from our Auckland headquarters. There have been many obstacles and challenges, but also a great deal of discovery and moments of joy. I have had to be creative with my approach, experimenting with different technologies and methods to ensure the best results. I’ve found that learning from the mistakes and successes of others is essential to our success. I’ve also had to be very mindful of the timeline and budget, as the impact of delays and overspending can be significant. Here is an example case study
Seeing the product come to life, with all the customisation and features intact, is an incredible feeling. It’s these moments that keep me motivated and inspired to keep pushing forward and finding new solutions to FinTech challenges. I am proud of the work I have done so far and am excited to continue my journey of discovery as I bring banking products to life around the world.
Please, stay tuned, I intend to post stories more regularly.
About me
As a Product Manager in the FinTech industry, I strive to keep on the leading edge of technology, trends and customer needs. Over the past 12 years, I have had the privilege of working on a number of innovative projects, such as the successful launch of KiTTi, a UK group payment venture (Santander). I have also been fortunate enough to lead the product development team at Visa Europe at Monitise Create. My projects have seen great success, and I have been honored to win the A' Design Award — Including products for SBI (State Bank of India) and core banking applications like Finacle (Infosys).
I am passionate about mentoring and helping others grow and succeed. I offer mentoring sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, and am available for active listening, clear communication, and goal-setting. It is incredibly rewarding to see others succeed and excel in the industry. [1], [2]
