Tech Lead

Lymba

Feb 2006 - Jul 2007

Led a team of software engineers to build spoken dialog systems using natural language processing components. Responsible for: project planning, working with customers (technical presentations, gathering requirements, writing proposals), designing and leading development of the software.

Software Engineer

Language Computer

Jan 2004 - Jan 2006

Helped build a natural language semantic parser which took syntactic parse trees as input and found semantic relations between phrases in the sentence. Also designed and led the development of a domain specific language and interpreter that allowed researchers to easily specify syntactic structures that might be indicators for semantic relations. This allowed our team to iterate on research several times faster than they were previously able to when the detection of each syntactic structure had to be manually coded in C++.

Co-op (software development)

IBM

Jan 2003 - Dec 2003

Helped build IBM's implementation of the OSGi framework, as well as an Eclipse plugin for developing software on the framework. OSGi is a Java framework that allows multiple applications to be run on a single JVM. These applications, as well as components that only provide services for other applications, can be installed, uninstalled, started, and shut down without restarting the JVM. Our implementation was eventually open sourced and became the runtime system of the Eclipse IDE itself.

Intern (software development)

FedEx

Jun 2001 - Aug 2001

Developed software to help FedEx standardize communication on XML; developed B2B software for adapting FedEx's new XML formats to client companies' formats. Java, Xerces XML, WebMethods.

Intern (software development)

FedEx

Jun 2000 - Aug 2000

Worked on a team of 6 interns who developed an intranet web portal using HTML/CSS/JavaScript, Java Servlets, and Oracle database. Followed the entire software development lifecycle from requirements gathering to product delivery.
